Ryugi Japan is another new and exciting brand to the shop for the 2021 season. First glance at their lineup had me very excited. As is typical with other JDM companies, the attention to detail is always impeccable. I personally had not heard mention of this particular company previously. But I am a firm believer now!

Ryugi Japan Fishing Tackle has set out to make the best bass fishing hooks and terminal tackle on the market by questioning every aspect of design. Based out of Hyogo Japan, Ryugi stays on the forefront of cutting-edge tackle innovation by utilizing a field staff team comprised of Lake Biwa fishing guides, top Japanese tournament anglers, and even Bassmaster tournament pro Takumi Ito. The development staff at Ryugi believes fieldwork is indispensable and aims to create products that reflect the ideas and understanding of their renowned field staff.

RYUGI VS LAKE SIMCOE

I have had the opportunity to field test a number of their products but really wanted to focus on one that I know our customers will love. I do a lot of drop shot fishing. Anyone that does this regularly will agree that hook choice is very important. Previous to Ryugi my drop shot hooks of choice, for a nose hook presentation, were a #2 Owner Mosquito and the #2 G-Finesse Drop Shot Hook offering from Gamakatsu. I have had great success with both of these and can vouch for them as they do in fact provide exceptional durability and fish landing ratios. HOWEVER! The Ryugi option, in my opinion, is that much better.

I took these hooks to a last minute tournament on Lake Simcoe. The land of the giant smallmouth. Having never used them before I was obviously hesitant to test them in a tournament situation. But that is precisely what I did.

I fished a two day event boating nearly all of my fish on the drop shot and this hook. I caught fish anywhere from 8-20 feet of water ranging from 3lbs to over 6lbs.. and a lot of them!! I used a single hook over the course of the two days. One hook! Thats unheard of in my experience - they last! The biggest stand out to me was my landing ratio though. None of this matters after all unless the fish end up in the boat and boy did they. I lost one fish over the course of two tournament days -One!! And I blame myself for a poor hook set. The hook itself performed incredibly well. So well that I have made the switch officially. These things are the real deal!

The Elite Canadian Bass Angers Tour, Lake Simcoe

The Ryugi Fog Shot Features a specialized coating and construction for next-level finesse and performance. The Ryugi Fog Shot Drop Shot Hook TC Coat delivers the fastest hook-set in the west. It boasts a fine wire Cyber Metal construction for a covert look, yet exceptional strength to tame even the biggest bass. 6lb plus smallmouth on lake Simcoe were the perfect test. In addition to the infallible Cyber Metal material, the Fog Shot Drop Shot Hook TC Coat also utilizes a premium Teflon coating that encourages lightning-fast penetration for reliably smooth hook-sets. When cash, points, or pride is on the line, you can bet I will be tying on a Ryugi Fog Shot Drop Shot Hook. Give them a try. You have my word. You won’t be disappointed.
